World Environment Day is celebrated each year on the 5th of June since 1974. It was started by the United Nations marking the first day of the Stockholm conference.

Although it was decided in 1972, the first environment day was celebrated in 1974 with the theme, “Only One Earth”. In 2019 the day is hosted by China and the theme is “Air Pollution”
Objective: It was started to encourage the protection of the environment and getting involved in doing something to take care of the earth.
World Environment Day is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. Since it began in 1974, the event has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries.
